Norphonic Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones have been installed in the 88 wind turbines powering the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm, owned jointly by Norway’s StatoilHydro and Statkraft.
Norway’s largest oil company and largest power utility announced they were co-owners of the 315-megawatt (MW) wind farm on 1 April, with Statkraft buying 50% of StatoilHydro’s share.
Norphonic is the leading provider of Heavy Duty VoIP Telephones in the Offshore Renewable energy market, with over 40 per cent of all wind turbines now relying on Norphonic to deliver essential communications and critical service continuity.
Global Sales and Marketing Director at Norphonic comments: “In these type of installations, for reasons of stability and repeatability, it is critical to have a robust open standard VoIP telephone installed because it integrates seamlessly with existing SCADA systems and Private Branch Exchange (PBX) solutions – whether it is Cisco, Alcatel, Broadsoft or Digium. The Norphonic VoIP solution gives the end user flexibility to add features and changes at a later date, making the system truly future-proof ”
As offshore wind farms are becoming larger, the need for our VoIP solutions and remote management systems will only increase in the future. We are well positioned for this demand and look forward to working with more wind farm installations.
